About MITC

MITC

In Marknesse, NLR, DNW, the Police and RDW, together with various (knowledge) partners, the municipality of Noordoostpolder and the Province of Flevoland, are working on the development of a leading knowledge and testing center for smart mobility. This is where the vehicles and aircraft of the future are developed and tested. It is also the place where vehicles and components without type approval can be extensively tested, in order to assess whether they can be safely admitted to public roads.

The development of future vehicles with autonomous functions and robots is emerging in many forms. For the Netherlands and Europe, it is essential to research, develop, test and certify the new generation of mobility in an innovative and high-quality manner.

The MITC in Marknesse will become the testing location for smart mobility in the Netherlands and Europe.

Centre for next-generation vehicles

The development of the centre is essential for realizing a responsible introduction of new generations of “smart” road, water and air vehicles, related components, and mobility applications in the Netherlands and Europe.

Increasing digitalization has a major impact on the mobility and transport sector. Intelligent, sustainable and autonomous road, water and air vehicles are on the rise.

With the European Green Deal in mind, a transition is also underway towards new propulsion technologies and new types of fuels, impacting all modes of transport.

Before new technologies can be safely deployed on a large scale, extensive (new) testing, validation and certification are required.

The MITC smart mobility and infrastructure test center in Marknesse provides a controlled environment in which a wide range of aspects and effects related to mobility can be effectively tested. This ensures a responsible and safe introduction of alternative innovative forms of mobility. MITC will play a connecting role between technological development and prototyping on the one hand, and the responsible admission of transport modalities on the other.
